P-36 Hawk Aces of World War 2 (Aircraft of the Aces) $10.95 The Curtiss P-36 was considered a revolution in performance design in comparison to other US fighters. Yet by the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the P-40 was increasingly supplanting the P-36, which the US then exported to France under the guise of the Hawk 75. Flown by the French, captured by the Germans, sold to the Finns, transferred to India and Africa, and even incorporated into ... |

English is commonly called the lingua franca of modern times. Spoken as first language to four million people - especially United States, the United - Kingdom, and the "seeds of the West - and, as a second language for up to one billion other people, including many in India and China, is a true global language.
Originally known throughout the British Empire, which continued to grow with the world has increased pre-eminence of the United States in the last century. This is an official language at the United Nations, the European Union The Union and the Commonwealth, and for many, seeing the face of "globalization" for the first Instead, they spoke English. Measured in terms of media rather that people, the feeling is even stronger. Most websites in the world, are written in English. In some areas, for example, scientific publications international, there is now something like a language English monopoly.
Unlike some other languages, English is not regulated or controlled by a single central authority. Many of us expect something from time to time when in a good dictionary (eg Oxford English Dictionary), but it is our choice as writers, speakers and readers. Of course, what we see as a good dictionary or authority is also a matter of choice, if we do so with the force of tradition, convention, and we wont return.
Like any evolving language, English is alive, not coordinated or controlled. The work of the editors of major English language dictionaries around the world to recognize that the words in the lexicon that money, do not tell us to use or how they should be used. This means that the varieties British and Anglophone communities need and use language.
No wonder so vast, widespread English-speaking population, is a large number of diverse communities worldwide should have produced many varieties of English. Some varieties are built, quite deliberately, with one goal in mind. "Basic English", for example, is an abridged version of English, designed to be easy to learn and to minimize the possibility of misunderstandings between international actors.
Most varieties, however, have evolved according to the behavior a community of English or another. Most people are familiar with American English (or American English) is different from English British (or UK - UK-English). Within a nation or a city, and visitors soon learn, the language used (but still in English) may vary considerably from one place to another. And geographical areas, different areas or fields to communities language. Many business people to communicate in a very "native" its scope, for the rest of us could be difficult to understand.
Thus, the beginning of the century, there may be more users of the English language that there were people living lives at the beginning of the last. Each of us belongs to at least one and perhaps many different linguistic communities, English - and it's thing we have to think about our writing and communication.
