Luis inherited an economy in ruins, and the debt became even more for countries supporting the British colonies in America in its struggle for independence. In Instead of raising taxes to pay for the war, Louis went to the debt. (George W. Bush subsequently did the same in Iraq. He's lucky he still has a head.) In 1787, asked the nobles to pay taxes to pay debt, but refused. In 1789, he called the Estates General and to raise taxes .. The States-General comprises three rooms: the first sequence represented nobility, including all his friends. They do not want to pay taxes, and Louis did nothing to convince them to do otherwise. The second one was composed representatives of the Church (especially the hierarchy). Many come from noble families, and they were also friends and associates. They pay no taxes, and Louis did nothing to convince you otherwise. Both groups have conspired to raise new taxes for the Third, which represents all others, including wealthy merchants, the middle class, urban poor and rural poor. Probably neither Louis nor his wife said: "Let them eat cake" when told that the masses could not buy bread, but there's no doubt his attitude, the Third met at a tennis court and called the Assembly National. Most of the power transferred to the people, and shortly after that the masses stormed the Bastille. The monarchy was abolished, but Luis was weak and inept. Some of his supporters wanted a rreturn monarchy, but he supported efforts only partially. In 1791, he and his family tried to escape, but was poorly planned and were caught and arrested. Other monarchs feared for the life of Louis, and in 1792 war broke out. During this time, Louis was charged with treason for attempting to leave the country, and in January 1783 was convicted. He was executed in January 16.
